Service User: Mr T (Male)

‘I left hospital and was given the option to have my own home in Hendon. I came from Newham, near Stratford, and moving to another part of London was very worrying. It set me off and I felt really unwell within the first few days, whereby I was listening to podcasts through the night and standing next to the wall in my new house.  

 

Within a week, I was visited by my HSO and he brought along a Manager to see how I was.  

 

For several weeks now, both of them have seen me. They are really helpful and encouraging, importantly listening to my future aspirations as well as recognising when I do not feel happy.  

 

Every week, they spend the time to advise me on ideas and what I would like to do. Such as getting out as much as possible and really just knowing Hendon. 

 

The Officer, has helped with me with the smallest of jobs, such fixing something broken in the toilet, this may not seem much, but it is. 

 

I really like what Unity have offered me, I didnt like it at first, but really the property is nicely set up, the quietness is what I really like. I like to keep my space as neat as possible, For now I will be setting up a few small pots to grow my own vegetables, ideally in the future, I would like to 

create my my own garden. 

 

My plan is to stay as well as I can and not be back in hospital. The help and support from the staff is really important, without them I would be alone and not know what to do or where to go. I am more motivated with making my own food, I sleep well and feel safe. I have got used to a main front door, it feels like a home, I have a found a few places where I now go. 

 

Probably in the near future, when I am ready, I may go back to East London, but for now, I wouldnt want to change what Unity Housing have given me, nothing short of kindness’
