Service User: A.A. (Male)

A.A. is originally from Libya and came to the UK as an asylum seeker after spending time in Germany. He faced significant personal challenges, including separation from his wife and daughter, which had a deep impact on his mental health and emotional wellbeing. When he first arrived, he also had limited English, making it difficult for him to communicate and access services confidently. 

 

A.A.’s journey has not been easy. He suffered multiple gunshot injuries to both legs during conflict in Libya and continues to receive ongoing medical treatment. These physical challenges, combined with emotional stress and language barriers, affected his confidence and motivation when he first engaged with support. 

 

With consistent encouragement and guidance, A.A. began to rebuild his life. He enrolled in English classes and gradually improved his communication skills. He was also supported in applying for and successfully receiving a Disabled Freedom Pass and Personal Independence Payment (PIP), helping him gain independence. Recognising his passion for fitness, he was encouraged to return to the gym, which became a key part of improving both his physical health and mental wellbeing. 

 

A.A. showed incredible determination by committing himself to fitness and bodybuilding. His hard work led him to compete in BPA Men’s Physique competitions twice in 2025, where he achieved 2nd place. He continued to push forward and later competed in the BPA Superhuman Show, achieving both 1st and 2nd place titles. These accomplishments highlight his discipline, resilience, and personal growth. 

 

Today, A.A. is a confident, motivated, and independent individual. He continues to engage positively with services and is preparing to move into independent living. His journey is a powerful example of overcoming adversity through resilience, support, and self-belief, and he remains focused on building a stable and successful future.
